Fundraising and masks

We have all been wearing face masks for a number of months now and will be doing so for the foreseeable future. Wearing a face covering helps to protect ourselves and others when we are out and about in public from COVID-19. And right now keeping our faces covered is more important than ever to help us control the spread of this second wave.
We are still raising funds for the groundbreaking research that uses the data provided by the COVID Symptom Study app to understand the long-term effects of COVID-19.
The masks sold were donated to us by the brand involved, and 100% of the sales has gone towards our Long Covid research, the preliminary findings of which will be published next week. All the masks have now been sold.
We apologise for the mishandling of this fundraising activity and in particular the email that was received by some users. This was not an advert or a marketing campaign to promote a brand, however, we can see how it came across that way. The intention was to help raise the vital funds we need to continue our work. We will learn from this mistake.
We also want to make it clear that we never share your data with third parties and our intentions are simply to help research.
